In Secret © by Irina Serban

Painting: Love by Khalil Gibran

In secret, I hid you under a thought;
Nobody knows of your existence!
My soul in different moulds is caught
By the illusion of your distance.

Thousands violins will play
Your presence in my heart.
I’ll shut the door to make you stay—
Our beings can never be apart.

I’ll keep you hidden underneath a heartbeat
Or in a tear that falls unwarily
And makes the earth shiver willingly
The drop in its embrace to keep.

You’ll be my deepest secret!
I’ll nurture your presence
With the fire in my heart,
I’ll change our distance into embers
That the darkest night will light.

Stepping on the hot wishes
Unuttered in my dreams,
I’ll stretch my hand to touch your illusion
That furtively runs to hide within.

In secret, I’ll put our chimeras
On  angels’ wings;
I’ll let them fly in circles supported by the winds
Until, resigned, inside my heart will fall—
Prisoners of longing throughout the eras,
Living hidden, in damnation
Their right to heavenly elation;
In secret… so secret that not even you will know.
